Inspiration
The company states that it used fighter airplanes as its inspiration when designing the F-Type and it uses the term "cockpit" when it refers to the driver and passenger compartment.
All the controls are grouped by function for ergonomic efficiency. The aviation influence is also demonstrated in the gearshift lever, which is shaped like a plane's joystick and is used to manage the F-Type's eight-speed transmission.
Engine
Engine
The Jaguar F-Type comes with a choice of three supercharged engines. The basic F-Type is supplied with a 3.0-liter, V6 engine that delivers 340 horsepower and 332 pounds-feet of torque. This engine can drive the car from 0-60 mph in just 5.1 seconds. It has a maximum speed of 161 mph.
The middle option is the F-Type S, which also has a 3.0-liter, V6 engine that generates 380 horsepower. This engine can get from 0-60 mph in a very impressive 4.8 seconds. The F-Type S has a top speed 171 mph.
The most powerful option is the F-Type V8 S. This car is fitted with a 5.0-liter, V8 engine that produces a massive 495 horsepower coupled with 460 pounds-feet of torque. The car takes only 4.2 seconds to go from 0-60 mph, and its maximum speed is 186 mph.
Interior
On the driver's side, the instrument gauges are housed in a hooded binnacle. The passenger is physically separated by a grab handle that runs down the center console. Driver side trimming is also different to that on the passenger side. A large LCD screen displays performance and other information.
Green
The Jaguar F-Type's body is manufactured from riveted and bonded aluminum. This manufacturing process reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 80%, compared to welding steel.
The company claims that over half the metal components of the car are made from recycled material. The company also has a policy in place of encouraging its suppliers to recycle all metal off cuts created in the manufacturing process.
