Toyota 86 Makes its D1GP Debut in Japan…and Crashes!

Diposting oleh Unknown on Minggu, 15 April 2012

Toyota-86-D1GP-Crash

We all know that the Toyota 86 (or GT86/Scion FR-S) was not made for outright power and top Nürburgring lap times but for having some fun behind the wheel of a nimble sports car. One of the things that the 86 is happy to oblige with is drifting thanks to its rear-wheel drive setup, limited-slip diff and a stability control system that can be fully deactivated.

It goes without saying that the modern-day hachiroku would participate in pro drifting series. But while the standard boxer may be satisfactory for road use, for racing, more power is needed.

Manabu “Max” Orido has already replaced the stock flat-four with a Lexus IS-F-sourced V8. Of course, the former JGTC GT300 class champion was present at the D1 Grand Prix drift series premiere to please the crowds with his drifting skills.

Another contestant didn't have a V8, but a pair of turbos slapped on the boxer engine. He didn’t have much luck, though, as he lost control of the car during a badly executed drift and ended up hitting the barrier and damaging the 86's rear end.

You can watch both the crash and Orido-san videos right after the jump.

Ferrari California Driver Rear Ends a Pair of Lincoln Town Car Limos in Tokyo

Ferrari-Crash-Japan

While our previous Ferrari-related accident of day, which took place in Germany, was caused by the love/respect of a man for animals/life, this incident involving a California hardtop roadster in Tokyo, Japan, is most likely the result of some careless driving.

The driver of the Ferrari California reportedly lost control of the car and smashed into a Lincoln Town Car limousine that was parked on the side of the road.

The crash was violent enough to push the white Town car into the rear end of the black limousine of the same brand parked right in front of it.

As you can see for yourself in the video that follows below, the grey Ferrari roadster sustained a lot of damages.

Nissan 240SX Successor Rumored as Scion FR-S Rival

Diposting oleh Unknown on Minggu, 08 April 2012

1995-nissan-240-sx

While Nissan is clearly enjoying great success with its 370Z and GT-R models, the Japanese automaker is missing a viable competitor to the upcoming Scion FR-S.59

Even though America never got the chance to enjoy a true Silvia 200SX (powered by a SR20DET), enthusiasts have taken the 240SXs we’ve gotten in America and swapped in the potent 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder. Now Nissan is considering producing a lighter, smaller sports car that could see a revival of the Silvia model.

Shiro Nakamura, Nissan’s design boss, recently said in an interview, “I much prefer smaller sports car. It is the time to look at that. With 370Z, we still don’t know next generation will have a larger or smaller engine.” The designer went on to elaborate that reducing the weight of the next-generation Nissan sports car is a priority.

Given the price range of the FR-S, it would make much more sense for Nissan to revive the SX moniker than to offer a less powerful Z.

“Sports car is a core of Nissan. We … really we have to sit down and work out what the future sports car should be for us,” Nakamura said.

Regardless of whether or not a new model is on the horizon, Nissan is working to lighten its current Z and GT-R models even more. But hey, we would welcome a smaller, lighter, and cheaper Nissan sports car with open arms.

A Street Full of Tuned Rolls Royce Phantom Limos, Coupes and Convertibles

Diposting oleh Unknown on Sabtu, 24 Maret 2012

How often do you see a street occupied by a plethora of Rolls Royce Phantom models of all sorts including the limo, the Coupe and the Drophead Coupe variants?

But wait, did we mention that all Phantoms were custom tuned? Now that's a sight you never forget.

You'd be inclined to believe that such a happening would most likely take place in Dubai, and you'd be partially right. We say partially because the street is named Dubai but it's not located in the United Arab Emirates but on the other side of the world in Tokyo, Japan.

Make your way through the jump to watch the videos.
