Forget the Ravens and the 49ers.
Chrysler just won the
Super Bowl with a commercial for its truck brand that was memorable, unique, and inspiring.
With an ad that's spiritually similar to tonight's troop-boosting Jeep ad, as well as their urban-centric Chrysler ads from previous years, Ram has delivered something that manages to tug at the heart strings while remaining genuinely authentic. It helps that the whole thing is beautifully shot.

For its second
Super Bowl commercial,
Lincoln Motor Company has stepped away from the Max Ernst-ian surrealism of the "Steer the Script" spot. No Germans, no turtles, no aliens nor alpacas this time, just a 30-second run through the ways in which Lincoln sees the 2013
MKZ as a rebirth of the brand and everything a luxury consumer would want.
The kind of traditional spot that could run any time of year, the only question we had after watching it was: "Wait – was that... Abraham Lincoln?"

Some carmakers released a whole new string of ads that will run prior to kickoff and during this Sunday's Super Bowl game between the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens in New Orleans.
There's a little something for everyone, from Mercedes-Benz's new CLA spot with Kate Upton and Kia's Space Babies, to the re-appearance of Big Bang star Kaley Cuoco in Toyota's 2014 RAV4 spot and Subaru's dog friendly commercial for the 2014 Forester crossover.

Hyundai is gearing up to show five commercials during this year's
Super Bowl, and you've probably already seen one of them called
Don't Tell that's been airing on television for weeks now. The Korean automaker has released two of the other four ads, though it looks like it might keep the headlining ad for the three-row
Santa Fe, called
Epic PlayDate, under wraps until the big game.
Of the two ads published on YouTube, we like
Stuck the most, which features the Sonata Turbo. It presents all of the horrid things you could be stuck behind on the highway as reason enough for buying a boosted Sonata with its ample passing power.

For viewers who plan on
watching the
Super Bowl only for the commercials, here's one for you to enjoy ahead of time. As we saw in the teaser video that Toyota released last week, will be making the transition from
Big Bang to The Big Game as a wish-granting genie in a commercial for the
2013 Toyota RAV4.
Though not as entertaining as the actual teaser for this commercial, it still garnered a couple chuckles from the Autoblog crew. We won't spoil it for you, but a word of advice: if Cuoco ever shows up in your driveway granting you wishes, we'd suggest you be very clear what you want... and enunciate.

While
Acura may have avoided calls when the story on a casting document that called for an African American actor who is "Not too dark" broke out Wednesday morning, the Japanese company has now issued a formal apology.
The document was allegedly leaked to gossip website TMZ by an African American actor "who didn't fit the profile, and who's pissed".
The ad asked for an African American to play the role of a car salesperson in Acura's Super Bowl commercial for the NSX concept featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno.
Acura said that it had nothing to do with the casting sheet and that this is the first time it heard about it.
The company's full statement follows below:
"We apologize to anyone offended by the language on the casting sheet used in the selection of actors for one of our commercials.
We sought to cast an African-American in a prominent role in the commercial, and we made our selection based on the fact that he was the most talented actor.
The casting sheet was only now brought to our attention. We are taking appropriate measures to ensure that such language is not used again in association with any work performed on behalf of our brand."PHOTO GALLERY

There was a time when for most people, automobile safety was synonymous with
Mercedes-Benz and Volvo, with both brands heavily promoting this aspect of their vehicles in their advertisements.
As the years passed by, the mainstream automotive industry as a whole made safety a number one priority for their vehicles and gradually all carmakers began showing similar commercials, until of course marketing teams pushed the focus elsewhere.
Now, Mercedes-Benz wants to remind consumers about the safety credentials of its cars with a new spot called Amy, named after a dog that made it out alive along with the…human passengers from a real car wreck involving a
CLS sports saloon that occurred last September.
Both English and German language versions of the ad follow below.

The last thing you'd expect to see on a quiet square of an average town in Belgium is people fighting and shooting guns, large ambulances, police vans, stealthy
Mercedes-Benz SUVs and a woman running around on a motorcycle wearing only lingerie – well, okay, scratch the last one.
Yet, this surrealistic scene, which looks like it was lifted straight from a Hollywood blockbuster, took place in the small town of Aarschot in the province of Flemish Brabant, as part of a promotion for the local launch of TV channel TNT.
All that was needed for the act to begin was for someone to press an orange button in the middle of the square. See how it all went down in the video after the break.
